Choose the target base before committing the recovered modifier.

For a boss weapon, preserve the damage combination that fits your skill before chasing attack speed. For mapping armor, cap the defenses you need before saving a luxury stat. That order prevents a pile of impressive fragments with nowhere useful to go.

Different Jobs, Different Orbs

Extraction isn't a replacement for every other crafting option. Exalted-style currency is for adding a new modifier when an item still has room to grow. Chaos-style currency is better when an early or mid-game rare needs a fresh set of rolls. Orb of Extraction is the precision option - it protects proven value. That also gives trade value to awkward drops. A poor base with one premium affix may be worth keeping, selling, or building around. Boss-focused sets, fast mapping pieces, league-specific gear, and transition items all benefit from that flexibility.

Spend With a Finished Item in Mind

Should you use an Orb of Extraction as soon as you see a strong modifier? Usually, no. First confirm the roll is genuinely rare for your build, the target base has long-term value, and the next crafting step is already available. Farm higher-level maps, major boss encounters, and league reward systems when you need more materials. Keep POE 2 Orbs for the items that can survive several upgrades, then make each extraction serve a real slot.
